We have entered into a partnership with the Bartlesville Public Schools Foundation (BPSF) to support chemistry-based initiatives at Bartlesville public schools! We hope that this synergistic relationship will lead to more visibility for the ACS and our funding programs. Last year the Foundation awarded over $125,000 to Bartlesville public schools. STEM Initiatives at the University of Tulsa

Northern Oklahoma ACS proudly announces this joint event between the local ACS and AIChE sections. Dr. Jim Sorem is invited to the Phillips 66 Research Center to discuss STEM at The University of Tulsa (TU). Dr. Sorem has a PhD in mechanical engineering and was a Design Engineer/MAPICS Implementation Manager at GASO Pumps in Tulsa. He currently serves as the Dean of the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences at TU.

NOK-ACS Excellence in Chemistry Award

Congratulations to Henry Williams, the 2017 NOK-ACS Excellence in Chemistry Award recipient! Henry graduated with Honors from Bartlesville High School and was one of the students that qualified to take the National Exam for Chemistry Olympiad in 2016.

2017 Second Quarter Seminar

On April 25th, Dr. Joe Vinson visited with members of our local section and gave a quite interesting seminar about the history of coffee from prehistoric times to present days. Who knew that coffeee comes in second place, after oil, as the second most valuable commodity and also in second place, after water, as the most consumed beverage in the world?





2017 Chemistry Olympiad

Every year, from January to March, Dr. Keith Lawson, member of the Northern Oklahoma ACS section, tutors 15-20 students from Honors Chemistry I and Chemistry II AP classes, to take the Chemistry Olympiad local exam.

Congratulations to James Martinez and Pranoy Behera, the local finalists that qualified to take the National Exam later in April.

Northern Oklahoma ACS chapter is pleased to announce the second quarter seminar scheduled for April 25, 2017 in Bartlesville, OK. Our invited speaker is Dr. Joe Vinson, Professor of Chemistry at the University of Scranton, Northeastern Pennsylvania. His talk will examine the fascinating history of coffee from its beginnings in prehistoric time, interesting mythologies, and the reasons for its popularity in various cultures.

ACS Award Winners at the Bartlesville District Science Fair

The 2017 Bartlesville District Science Fair, hosted at the Phillips 66 Research Center on February 24-25, gathered around 300 students from Bartlesville and vicinities. Participation in the science fair is an excellent way to help students develop an understanding of the scientific process along with strengthening their communication skills.

2017 First Quarter Seminar

On February 21st, Northern Oklahoma ACS local section facilitated a well attended seminar with Dr. Mary Orna, Chemistry Professor at College of New Rochell. She talked about the use of Analytical Chemistry for the conservation and investigation of art pieces and about how much these methods helped to identify the techniques used to make these objects, to determine their content, and also to date them.

Dr. Kay Bjornen - 2017 Local Section Outreach Volunteer of the Year Award

On February 21st, the Northern Oklahoma ACS section presented Dr. Kay Bjornen with the 2017 Local Section Outreach Volunteer of the Year Award.

Dr. Kay Bjornen worked for ConocoPhillips Co. and taught high school chemistry and AP chemistry. She played a critical role as the Chair of the Pentasectional Regional Meeting 2016 for the Northern Oklahoma Local Section.
